SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
He was drafted in the first round by the Toronto Blue Jays right out of Long County High School.
That was back in 2000. Fast forward to the present day and D-Mac is back in town.
Dustin McGowan stopped in Savannah for a free clinic at the Chain Baseball Academy Friday afternoon.
He told stories of how he made it to the big leagues, he talked about his favorite ball park to pitch in, his encounters with David Ortiz, also known as Big Poppi and he offered advice to the athletes about how he trains.
As nice as it was for the ball players listening to McGowan, it was equally as nice for McGowan to be back home.
"First of all, I love being home, I get to see my family and friends. But this is a treat coming over here and talking to the kids because this was me at one time and I would listen to anyone that would talk to me about baseball and hopefully I can help any of these kids because I'd like to see them all go play college baseball even pro baseball."
