Reverend Michael Guido
METTER, GA (WTOC) - A sad day in Metter and for south Georgia as a whole on Sunday. The reverend Michael Guido was laid to rest at the Guido Gardens.
The funeral for Rev. Michael Guido seemed more like a retirement sendoff or an old fashioned revival. Friends, even strangers came to honor his decades of ministry and the God he served.
"Dr. Guido has gone on to the heaven he pointed so many thousands and millions of people to," said friend Rev. Joe Eason.
Rev. Bucky Kennedy heads the Georgia Baptist Convention. His grandfather went to seminary with The Sower and he considers him a mentor.
"He had a heart to serve God and that meant serving people," said Kennedy. "It didn't matter if you were down and out or up and coming. He loved all the same."
Music and testimonies affirmed the legacy of the minister who used radio and television to share faith around the world and at home in Metter. Among his many talents friends say, he made everyone he met feel like a close personal friend.
"He was a genuine person. The person you saw in public was the same person he was in private," said his brother Dr. Larry Guido.
Loved ones say he was as committed to his calling in his last days.
"The apostle Paul said I have run the race I have finished the course," said Kennedy. "Not many people get to finish. Most of us just end. He finished. Only heaven will know the millions of people impacted by Michael Guido."
Michael Guido was 94-years-old.
