The Port Wentworth Fire Department now has five full time firefighters. The fire department hired two more firefighters this week, meaning the department can offer protection seven days a week.
The city council approved the new hires because of the high volume in calls. Fire chief Greg Long says the city has grown so much, they need the extra staff. "This allows us the opportunity to be able to accomplish more administratively with the department and it really just builds a solid foundation for the future," said Long.
