  • Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which the tissue lining the esophagus—the mus­cular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach—is replaced by tissue that is simi­lar to the lining of the intestine.

  • Celiac disease is a digestive disease that dam­ages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye, and barley.

  • How We Treat ItHow We Treat It

  • This procedure allows the gastroenterologist to perform a visual examination of the entire colon.  This procedure is performed under sedation and patients are asleep during the examination.

  • Investigation/examination of the colon for evidence of cancer or pre-cancerous lesions.  This examination is performed on patients 50 years and older once every ten years or if necessary more frequently; and on patients who are at higher risk for colorectal cancer.

  • This procedure is accomplished to identify specific causes of symptoms being experienced by the patient.  Some examples are bleeding, pain, and change in bowel habits.
