GUYTON, GA (WTOC) - Deputies say Jacob Newman of Guyton was riding a motorcycle through his neighborhood when he shot a Boston Terrier twice.
We spoke to the owner of the dog who is shocked, angry and amazed someone would do such a thing.
Peggy Tucker is a dog breeder and loves animals, but pictures are all she and her family have left of their 4-year-old Boston Terrier, Sierra.
"I got a phone call from work, I just can't do this, from work saying my dog has been shot with a 32 pistol twice," said Tucker.
Effingham County Sheriff's deputies say 22-year-old Jacob Newman was on a motorcycle cruising through his neighborhood when Sierra began barking. Deputies say Newman was carrying an infant in his arms at the time. They say he stopped the motorcycle and then shot and killed the dog.
"I don't know how someone could do that to a small animal, and innocent little dog," said Tucker.
"She was my life, everywhere I went she was with me and a sweet dog and she was a family dog," said Tucker.
Debra Fouchey lives just across the street from the Tucker family. She saw Sierra had gotten out yesterday and chased her home.
"A few minutes later I heard gun shots and thought to myself wow, I hope that wasn't Sierra, and it was," said Fouchey. "I was surprised and it's shocking why would anyone shoot a small dog, she wasn't aggressive there is no reason for it."
And to make matters worse, the Tucker family can't find their dog. Witnesses say they watched Newman shoot the dog, but when they ran inside to call police, the dog was gone.
"Unfortunately she is still missing and we don't know where she is at," said Tucker. "I could never forgive this man for what he was done. She was like my child."
And now all she has left are memories.
Newman is in the Effingham County Jail charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to children and reckless conduct.
