Savannah Says Goodbye to Ashleigh

Thousands of people in the Coastal Empire gathered at the Second African Baptist Church in Savannah to say goodbye to 12 year old Ashleigh Moore. Ashleigh died on April 18th. Her body was found nearly a month after she disappeared from her Savannah home.

On Saturday, those who knew her, as well as many who did not, came to show their support to Ashleigh's family. "She touched a lot of people," says Mary Jones in Savannah. Hundreds of people in the community helped with the search for Ashleigh. Many organized their own search parties. "People that didn't even know her have been touched," adds Jones.

Students and teachers from DeRenne Middle School where Ashleigh attended seventh grade were also present. "These are things we just don't understand," explains Savannah Chatham School Board President Hugh Golson. "I hope this will be part of a healing for the family and for the family at DeRenne Middle School."

"It's all really sad you know," admits Eric Johnson, who's related to Ashleigh. "We all know God does everything for a reason. She's in a better place and we all should be so lucky, but we just continue to pray for her mother and the rest of her family."

Ashleigh Moore was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Savannah. Police are still searching for clues in her death.
