SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students at one elementary school are doing what they can to alleviate hunger in Chatham County.
Today, Bartow Elementary announced starting April 1, they will be playing the April fool's joke on hunger. Students will start collecting canned goods and non-perishable items that they will then donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Students like Waahida Johnson says they are excited about the opportunity to help others in their own community.
"Trying to give them food, so when the problem comes we can solve it and we know next year is going to be hard for a lot of Americans and when the problem comes we can solve it and not have to wait," said Johnson.
Bartow is the first school in the Savannah-Chatham School District to partner with Second Harvest. If you would like to help out with food drive, you can contact Second Harvest Food Bank at 912.236.6750 or Bartow Elementary School 912.201.5300.
