SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Things got heated as parents voiced their concerns to the state and local leaders about public education.
Thursday Armstrong Atlantic State University hosted a public hearing so parents, state officials, and Chatham County school officials could talk about what's going on statewide and locally with the public school system.
Once the state finished their presentation, parents had a chance to talk about their concerns. Some talked about school policies, others concerned about the cut-off date for when a child can enroll in Pre-K, but the bulk of the concerns were about the closing of Hodge Elementary School.
"You say you're going to close a school that's doing excellent for my child and my children. I'm going to speak my mind," said one concerned parent.
Another parent said, "Everything you want a child do is there at Hodge!"
Even a Hodge Elementary School student said, "Hodge is a very, very great school and it'll be a shame if the board of education shuts it down."
Chatham County School Superintendant Doctor Lockamy says he's truly trying to find a way to keep the children in the neighborhood. He says he hopes to give to his recommendation to the board in the next month and adds he thinks when this is all said and done it's going to be a win, win for all.
