SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Hodge Elementary School may be able to keep its doors open.
In April, Savannah-Chatham superintendent Dr. Thomas Lockamy will be looking into several different options when it comes to the elementary school.
Option one would be to keep Hodge Elementary School open and redesign the new Beach High School.
The second option would be to bulldoze Hodge to make room for a new high school.
The third option would be to move the students to the old DeRenne Middle School building, which is located just down the road. Superintendent Lockamy will present these three options to board members over the next couple of weeks and then present his recommendation sometime in April.
The district has been planning to close the Hodge for years now, but Hodge parents were upset because they claim the district promised they would reopen a new elementary school in the same neighborhood.
Now instead of walking to school, the students would be bused to Garrison Elementary School. Parents tell WTOC they will continue to fight in order to keep the school's doors open.
