THUNDERBOLT, GA (WTOC) - Congratulations to Thunderbolt Elementary School; they're number one in the whole country and today they celebrated quite an accomplishment.
At the beginning of the month we told you that Thunderbolt Elementary Marine and Science School won the 2009 Dr. Ronald P. Simpson Distinguished Magnet School of Excellence Award. Today students and faculty celebrated with a community and volunteer lunch where they showed off their new plaque that they can now display.
The award was given to the school for their commitment to high academic standards and marine science curriculum.
Principal Dr. Victoria Bryant beemed, "This is really our second big award; in 2007, we were magnet school of distinction, so we were recognized then as an emerging magnet program so we have reached the top. And we're going to stay on top!"
Along with the plaque, the school will receive a $5,000 grant.
Volunteers also received certificates this afternoon for helping the school become the very best.
