SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Largo Tibet Elementary School was put on lockdown around 1:30pm Thursday when Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified them of suspects fleeing on foot nearby.
The school was notified that police were in pursuit of 3 suspects who had exited a stolen car in the area. According to police, the principal then told his teachers to lock the doors to their classrooms.
A witness who lives behind the school said he saw two younger men run into the woods by his house and right behind them was police with K9 units.
"I heard sirens and I saw cops flying by and so I stepped outside and closed my windows and locked my door," said Michael Jones. "I didn't know what was happening and I saw one officer get out and open his trunk and pull out his rifle and I thought, okay, this is serious."
SCMPD have one suspect in custody and currently have a perimeter set up, looking for the other two.
