POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Another local legislator has resigned to seek another State office. Now former State representative and former Pooler mayor Buddy Carter says he's running for Senate District 1, from which Eric Johnson resigned Tuesday to devote more time to his run for governor. See State Senator Eric Johnson has resigned.

"With the experience I've had I want to continue to represent the people the best I can and this will give the opportunity to do that," said Buddy Carter. "Secondly, this leaves a big void. In Chatham County, Effingham County, and Bryan and Liberty counties. This just leaves a big void in our area. And I have the unique opportunity and the unique ability and the unique experience to step right in and have a seamless transition from one side of the capital to the other, from the House over into the Senate."

Governor Perdue called for special elections for House District 159 and and Senate District 1 on November 3, in conjunction with municipal elections.
