SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Many schools have already taken the sweet drinks out of their lunchrooms, and now they're working harder to get students to try new foods served in the cafeteria.
This week is National School Lunch Week so schools in the area are beefing up the menu. WTOC visited Savannah High School where school officals hope to inspire students to make healthier food choices by providing more fruits and vegetables. School nutritionists even tasted the new additions.
"We are trying to get rid of stigma that school lunch is not good for the students," said school nutritionist Onetha Boneparte. "Of course That is one of those things that is difficult to get rid of once they go it in their minds. One of the things we try to introduce them to products we have and that they are healthy choices."
National School Lunch Week is designed to show students they can eat their favorite foods and eat health at the same time.
