SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Red Ribbon Week kicked off on Monday and all week long students will take part in activities that inform them of the dangers of drug use. The Savannah-Chatham school board members are encouraging students to say no to drugs.
WTOC caught up with Calvary Day School and Charles Ellis Elementary.
Calvary Day School held a special ribbon cutting ceremony at their lower school to celebrate the event. The theme of the week is "make footprints worth following".
"We think christ made footprints worth following and we want to continue on that path and we want to make our footprints worth following for the generations behind us," said fifth grade teacher Judi Griffin.
Calvary's week will end with special guest Randall Phillips, a U.S. Customs border patrol officer and chemical analyst.
Students and staff with the Charles Ellis Elementary School tied red ribbons around the trees on the school's property to kick off their event. The whole school gathered on the lawn, hoping to drive home an important message to our youth.
"They outline activities for the entire week and all the kids say the pledge and pledge to be drug free," said assitant director of health, P.E. and Athetics Jason Stubbs
