SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Old Savannah City Mission is cooking up thousands of pounds of turkey and the usual Thanksgiving side dishes to serve the less fortunate in our community.

On Saturday, Old Savannah City Mission will celebrate their 12th annual Day of Great Thanksgiving in Forsyth Park from 11am until 2pm. More than 800 volunteers are making sure this is going to be their biggest and best dinner ever.

"We have smoked over 7,000 pounds of turkeys, that's 480 turkeys, and we're preparing 7,000 meals for the hungry and homeless in our community and those that are going through tough times," said executive director Jim Lewis.

Of the 7,000 meals, 1,600 will be delivered to people who are not able to leave their homes.  If you need meals delivered to your home, call Old Savannah City Mission at (912)-232-1979
