"She is a life savior on four legs," said Hill. Hill says her dog wouldn't stop barking until she woke up.
"When my was dog barking like that ,we got up came out the door and saw the smoke," said Hill.
The woman's apartment below had caught on fire, but while everyone was still asleep.
Hill's pit bull sniffed out the smoke and warned the family before it was too late.
"My son and friend, who has dog, kicked the back door in and my son went in the front door with the water hose to put the fire out. So by the time the fireman got here the couch was out. They just had to water it down.
Hill says the true hero is her four legged friend. "I am very thankful that is my best fried," she said.
This pit bull is also being hailed as a hero. Witnesses say the fire was started by unattended candles.
