SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - State representative Buddy Carter took the oath Sunday to become a Georgia state senator.
Carter ran in a special election to replace Eric Johnson, who is now running for governor.
Senator Carter served as mayor for the city of Pooler, as well as the Georgia General Assembly.
Now he will serve Chatham, Bryan and Liberty counties and he knows that there is a lot of work to be done.
"Our focus is going to be the budget," said senator Carter. "With declining revenues it's going to be a big challenge for us. We've got to create a fertile environment to create jobs and make certain we can attract companies to Georgia and have job creation. That's going to be the key."
