MCINTOSH COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - An accident on Interstate 95 in McIntosh County has claimed the life of a 3-year-old Pittsburgh boy.

The accident happened shortly before 1pm at mile marker 63 in the southbound lane of I-95.

According to Georgia State Patrol trooper Bruce DeLoach, the tractor trailer, driven by Willie Hill of Jacksonville, had been traveling at a high rate of speed according to witnesses.

The 18 wheel truck slammed into the rear of a 2007 Toyota Sienna van driven by Susan Thornton.

Also in the vehicle was her husband Daniel, and 3 children: Christopher, 8, Sarah, 5, and Sean, 3.

When the truck struck the back of the van, the vehicle was pushed onto the shoulder of the interstate into the treeline, breaking several trees as both vehicles plowed through.

Georgia State Patrol was not certain where the family was traveling to.

Hill told police he was hauling large rolls of paper.

Susan Thornton and her daughter Sarah were flown by LifeStar to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Hill was also taken by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center.
