SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Chatham County grand jury has indicted a Savannah man in the slaying of his wife after a daylong quarrel.
Police say a man shot his wife Oct. 31 on Ben Kell Road in the Coffee Bluff area.
Officers arrested 69-year-old Robert M. Johnson and charged him with murder. Investigators say Johnson shot his wife, 66-year-old Mary Ellen Johnson during an argument at their home. Officers chased Johnson to a gas station at White Bluff and Windsor Road and arrested him. Mary Ellen Johnson was taken to the hospital where she later died.
Johnson told detectives the couple had been fighting "for 40-something years."
