BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) - The 8th annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run kicked off early Saturday morning in sunny Brunswick, Ga.

People gathered to run and walk across the scenic Sidney Lanier Bridge which boasts a height of 480 feet and a length on 7,000 feet.

"This year's theme is 'Running of the Ribbons: The Colors of Hope,'" said event organizer Susan Bates in a news release. "The official run t-shirt features 15 colored ribbons representing the most frequent types of cancer diagnoses at the Health System."

The event also hosted a number of other activities for everyone to enjoy. There was a 5K walk, a Department of Natural Resources Interactive Fishing Booth, live entertainment from the top of the bridge, live radio, food vendors and awards.

"This is always a great, healthy family event for our community," said Health System president and ceo Gary R. Colberg in a news release. "Hosting such a wonderful, health-focused event that will benefit our Cancer program fits into the Health System's mission of providing quality health care in our own backyard."
