Culinary students qualify for regional competition

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Five Savannah Tech culinary arts students returned from the National Student Hot Food Competition where they have earned a spot in the Southeast Regional Championships of the American Culinary Federation Event.

Students were required to prepare a four course meal in 75 minutes.

"Well, when we first got there, it's a bigger campus, so it was a little shock and awe. but we just had to look at it as it was glitz and glamour and go out and whoever could cook the best was the winner and that was us," said team captain Zebulon Berry.

"I was very, very, very proud of them," said culinary department head Chef Jean Vandeville. "The president of the college, Dr. Lovel, right away gave us a call and congratulated us. It meant a lot to us."

The cooking competition was something they had to do in addition to their classwork.

The Savannah Tech team will compete again April 29 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Southeast Regionals.
