CNT makes large drug bust in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's one the biggest drug busts in recent memory, 850 marijuana plants still growing in a house. That pot on the streets would have been worth $2 million.

According to the neighbors there was nothing in the house, no furniture, no signs anyone was staying there, just marijuana plants and all the equipment used to grow them.

The Chatham County Narcotics Team found plants in all different stages of development. Some were between 3 and 5 feet tall.   The total weight ofall plants seized was 1,900 pounds. The grow labs discovered in the home were equipped with very elabarote lighting and irrigation systems.

CNT left a little note for any drug buyers on the front lawn of the home saying that the shop is closed.  Also outside the house you could see all the soil and other supplies in the home's yard.

One neighbor tells us he was shocked when he found out what was happening next door. "I've never seen him bring a hamburger in the house, let alone 800 plants," said John Oliver. "It was a real shock to the community, to the street because we are quiet we're close knit for that to take place underneath your nose. It's very shocking you don't know who you live next door."

This house was the main house used in the operation, but agents also found drugs at a second home on Dyches Drive.

Two people are behind bars for this, Nathaniel Bryant Jr. and Chandra Gaskins.

Bryant and Gaskin are being held in the Chatham County Detention and are expected to be arraigned on Monday.

"Today's seizure marks the 5th large seizure conducted by CNT this week. The larger seizures are a result of longer term investigations," said lieutenant Greg Mitchell, assistant Deputy Commander, in a news release.
