HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - Fort Stewart fire investigators say a sauna may have been the cause of early-morning fire at Newman Physical Fitness Center.
A fire alarm went off at about 2:37 a.m. Thursday and the Fort Stewart Fire Dept. arrived to find smoke coming out of the building. The Hinesville Fire Dept. was then called. The fire was put out by 3:37 a.m.
No one was injured and damage estimates are being made for the repairing of Newman, according to Fort Stewart's Public Affairs Office.
The Fort Stewart staff is preparing a plan to put in place during the gym's repairs. Saunas at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield's other fitness centers have been turned off for safety, according to Fort Stewart officials.
