SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Two Savannah men were hospitalized Friday morning after crashing a pickup truck that police said they stole Thursday night and used to rob a woman who was walking to her house.
Marquis Jamel Glen, 23, of the 2100 Block of East 58th Street, and Orondi Jackson, 24, of the 100 Block of Palm Avenue, were under guard at Memorial University Medical Center on Friday morning.
Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said that just after 1 a.m. Friday, Glen drove the stolen Ford F-150 into an Oak tree at 40th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Jackson tried to run from the wreckage and Glen was trapped in the vehicle, according to police. Both were arrested at the scene.
Police said the pickup truck had been reported stolen about 10:55 p.m. Thursday after Glen and Jackson approached and robbed a man and a woman who were sitting in it in Daffin Park. The men demanded keys to the pickup and the woman's silver Jeep and left with both vehicles.
At 11:37 p.m., two men stopped a woman who was getting out of her Jeep in the 500 block of East 51st Street and demanded her purse before driving away. The victim was not injured.
At 1:19 a.m., officers from the Downtown Precinct and Neighborhood Task Force identified the stolen pickup and began following it shortly before it crashed into the Oak tree.
A gun, mask and keys and purse taken from the 51st Street robbery were recovered from the pickup, according to authorities.
Police continue to look for the stolen Jeep.
