WWII Paratroopers Meet in Savannah

More than 200 World War II veterans met in Savannah this weekend. The 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team held its reunion at the Savannah Desoto Hilton last night.

Sixty-one years ago today, these brave men made their historic parachute jump over southern France and kept the Germans from attacking the seaborne troops who came ashore.

Tonight was a chance for these true band of brothers to recall friendships and retell stories.

"We fought, trained, went through the same training as the band of brothers in the 506 did," 517th Combat Team Association president Howard Hensleigh told us, "battled in the Battle of the Bulge and stopped the advancing in the bulge."

The City of Savannah even presented them with their own proclamation, declaring today as 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team Day.
