METTER, GA (WTOC) - Some people see their last years as a time to slow down. Reverend Michael Guido was just the opposite. He spoke openly about his final days, months and years before his death over the weekend.

"The closer I get to the finish line, the faster I want to run and the more I want to do," he said prior to the 50th anniversary of broadcasting from Metter.

He looked less at what he'd accomplished and more to the work still left ahead.

"There's one time of day that touches my heart and makes me cry. That's when the sun begins to set, the lights come on and I realize I have one less day to serve the Lord than I had the day before that hurts me," he added.

As they plan his funeral, friends can imagine Dr. Guido would scold them for putting so much attention on him. He'd say they should pay attention to the message and forget the message.

In his 50 years in Metter, no one can remember a cross word from him or a cross word about him. He preached a simple message of an Almighty God who loved everyone. That included a young man named Michael, a converted nightclub band leader who wandered into a revival to hear the piano player. From there on, he sang a different tune to all that would hear.

"I've sought just one thing, to glorify God and we've done our best to do it. My favorite Bible verse is For me, to die is Christ. To die is gain," he concluded.

For those who might mourn his passing, Dr. Guido said long ago no one is lost if you know where they are.
