SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A brand new company that specializes only in making police cars, is considering setting up shop in Chatham County.
This fancy patrol car is called the Carbon E-7. Carbon Motors Corporation built it and they are traveling across the county trying to entice city leaders and police officers to buy these state-of-the-art vehicles. They stopped by the International Trade and Convention Center on Hutchinson Island this afternoon.
The cars come with all kinds of bells and whistles, including five cameras and a built-in computer.
Carbon Motors CEO William Li said it can take a beating unlike any other car on the market. "It's now seven years since 9/11 and our 840,000 men and women in uniform in our community are doing so in a car designed in the 70s to take you to the grocery store and that is not acceptable technology for our first responders in this volatile environment we are in," said Li.
The Savannah Economic Development Authority is trying to entice Carbon Motors to build the cars at the Mega Site in Pooler. It's one of six locations the company is considering.
Li said he hopes to pick a site by this summer and start production in 2012.
