POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Today some Chatham County students brought black history and Revolutionary War history to life.
West Chatham Elementary School students and teachers created a living history museum. The gifted fourth and fifth graders dressed as historical characters like Paul Revere and BB King.
The students got to choose someone from their history lessons, research that person and prepare a presentation for fellow students, teachers and their parents.
Teacher Jacqueline Dennerlein said it's a great way to get children excited about learning.
"They get to see history comes to life, it's one thing to read about history in a book and it's just words on a page, now it's coming to life and they see it happen and get to hear about that person's life," she said.
This is the first time the school has organized a live museum and teachers said it was such a success that they plan to do it again next year.
