PORTAL, GA (WTOC) - Hundreds of potential artists made their debut Tuesday night. Portal Elementary School hosted their first ever family fine arts night.
Parents got the chance to learn about famous artists the students have studied. They displayed their own art in a host of places, including the ceiling. Organizers hope students learn art is a valuable form of communication.
"Kids don't often have a place to express themselves. They're locked into a right or wrong answer. So having fine arts in school is a way for kids to express themselves," explained art teacher Deena Scarborough.
Some of the classes put their lessons to music to sing about artists and parents had the chance to buy the artwork and support the school.
