For the third time in less than a week, firefighters have battled a major blaze in Garden City. About 2am this morning, a motorist spotted a mobile home owned by Stewart Trucking Company on fire. The fire quickly spread, and Garden City firefighters had to call for backup from the Port Wentworth Fire Department. The entire building was a total loss.
Just last Thursday, fire destroyed a building at a Garden City apartment complex. And on Friday, a home on 4th Street was destroyed.
Garden City fire chief Jimmy Crosby says there is no connection between the fires.
"We've determined there is no connection in the first two fires that we've had," he told us. "The fire at the Plantation was a fire that started in the downstairs bathroom under the stairwell. The fire on 4th Street is an accidental fire when the man was lighting the stove."
The cause of this morning's fire has not been determined.
