The chief tax appraiser for Chatham County, Gary Udinsky, has resigned after months of troubles. Chatham County commissioners unanimously accepted Udinsky's resignation this morning. He will be given $157,000 in severance pay to cover his legal expenses and cover back pay and vacation time. Udinsky has agreed not to appeal his resignation and never to seek another job with the department. Commissioners are pleased the matter's settled.
"We came to a settlement with Mr. Udinsky and we'll part ways, and I hope we start moving forward in a positive way in the tax assessor's office," said commissioner Dean Kicklighter.
The resignation will be official after the board of assessors meeting next Tuesday.
