Tyree Roberts, the man accused of killing two Beaufort County sheriff's deputies was back in court yesterday, but not without controversy. Family members and extra deputies were also in courtroom during a hearing for Roberts. Prosecutors are trying to decide who will transport him for his mental evaluation in Columbia, South Carolina.
Sheriff PJ Tanner told the court he's concerned about his deputies transporting Roberts. Prosecutors say they've reached a deal.
"In a meeting with jail administration at the sheriff's department, an agreement was entered where he would be transported and how he would be transported," said solicitor Randolph Murdoch. "It's reduced to a written order, which will be sealed for security purposes."
That order also states that Roberts must have a mental evaluation on or before December 5 to see if he's competent to stand trial.
