Eight people, including 11-month old twins in Hinesville, were killed in house fires over the weekend in Georgia. Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine says the twin girls died when the manufactured home they were living in went up in flames Sunday morning. Oxendine says their four-year-old sister was playing with a lighter and set the bed spread on fire.
Six other people were killed in fires in Ludowici, Cornelia, Cartersville and Gainesville. Firefighters say none of the homes had smoke detectors.
People who can't afford smoke detectors can request a free one from the insurance commissioner's office by calling 404-656-2070.
