The Southern Smiles organization is hoping to give overseas troops a little reminder of home, spreading good cheer halfway across the globe just in time for the holidays. It's called Operation Savannah Cares.
The group is recruiting businesses to adopt a military squadron from our area deployed overseas. Each business will be required to send care packages at least every two months, with everything from toothpaste and sunscreen to toilet paper and magazines.
"Having something in the mail call, no matter who it's from, it's great for the soldiers," said General Buford Blount of the Third Infantry Division. "It really lifts their morale."
Operation Savannah Cares is trying to make sure every soldier deployed from the Coastal Empire gets adopted. If you're interested in getting involved, contact Southern Smiles at 912.356.9983 or online at www.southernsmiles.org .
