Wounded Cop's Condition Better, but Still Critical

Savannah police are continuing to ask for your help in finding the gunman who shot Star Corporal Martin White. The 54-year-old is still listed in critical condition, but White is now able to gesture with his eyes and squeeze his doctor's hand. He can't talk yet because of a tube in his throat, but officers say they're optimistic he'll be okay.

Officer White was shot in the throat and chest just before 3:30am Tuesday as he sat in his police car at 61st and Habersham Streets. He called into dispatchers to report he'd been shot, then drove across the street to the Timesaver store. He was found by other officers and was rushed to Memorial Health and into surgery.

Police have been working the case around the clock. If you have any information that may help them, call CrimeStoppers at 234-2020; a reward is offered.
