Savannah police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of officer Star Corp. Martin White. This morning, police arrested 26-year-old Ahmad Johnson of Savannah. They say Johnson shot White December 10 while White was sitting in his patrol car at Habersham and 61st Streets. Officers didn't have to look too far for Johnson; he was already in jail on unrelated charges.
Those who work and live in the area are relieved to see a suspect behind bars.
"It's a relief certainly that he's off the streets, but it's even more of a comfort to know that justice hopefully will be done in this case," said Michael Faber of nearby Clary's Cafe.
Police are not releasing more information at this time.
"We do not want to in any way damage this case before it gets to court, therefore all the information we have we're withholding until after the prelim hearing," said Lt. Andre Oliver. "A lot of info and evidence will come out at that time."
Star Corp. White has been upgraded from serious to good condition at Memorial Health.
