Greenbriar's 60th anniversary celebration

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Greenbriar Children's Center is thrilled to celebrate 60 years of family by hosting a family reunion.  The center opened its doors on July 15, 1949 and is excited to host a family reunion on this momumentous date.

Over the last 60 years, Greenbriar has served over 25,000 families and children.  Some of those children who lived there when the facility opened were at the celebration tonight.

Evelyn Curry, a former resident and a current Greenbriar Board member, says, "It's amazing to see that it is still standing and still helping out young people," adding, "I don't know what would have happened to me if Greenbriar wasn't there for us."

Edwinna Lucky Howard is another resident who was there at the same time as Curry.  She also believes that Greenbriar helped her have a normal childhood despite the hardships her family faced.

"They have been a blessing to me," Howards says.

The celebration included a puppet show, food and "Magic Marc" to provide entertainment for children and adults of all ages.
