Paying tribute to Johnny Mercer

By WTOC staff

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Johnny Mercer is one of Savannah's most famous sons, and today folks were honoring him, a century after his birth. Coastal Jazz played some of the facmous music of Johnny Mercer.  Bassist and trombonist Ben Tucker and Teddy Adams, two major faces of savannah jazz, were joined by singer Huxsie Scott to pay tribute to Mercer.

Today's concert was part of Coastal Jazz's monthly membership drive, trying to get more people interested in music.

"We are very, very fortunate to be part of the Coastal Jazz Association. And we do this for the benefit of Savannah," said Lacy Manigault.

Coastal Jazz will also be holding a festival September 20th through the 27th in Forsyth Park, and it will be free to the public.
