(WTOC) - Today marked the official start of football practice for teams all over the state.

The South Effingham Mustangs, and the Jenkins High Warriors were among those getting the early start.

Mustang head coach Greg Manior began workouts 8 o'clock this morning.

"I'm seeing a bit more enthusiasm", he said. "our guys have got more energy. They're more fired up it seems like, in anticipation for the season."

Senior running back Frank Manker added he was just as excited to kick off the 2009 campaign.

Over at Jenkins High, head coach Tim Adams  spoke of a vast improvement in the team's energy.

"They're practicing fast, they're playing fast and they're responding to what we're telling them" said Adams. "That to me is a very positive sign."

The Warriors are coming off a 2-8 finish in 2008.
