Several area teams get Monday start

While Saturday marked the start of high school football practice across the state, several area teams held off preparations for the new year until the new week.

Savannah's Bible Baptist and Savannah Christian both hit the field Monday morning after summers of strength and conditioning.

"I was pretty excited," said Braves head coach Matt Smith.  "All weekend I was just like man I wish we could go on Saturday and let's get it started, so it was nice to wake up and football was back on the horizon."

After a second round exit from the state playoffs last season, Raider head coach Donald Chumley spoke of his team's goals in 2009.

"We're setting goals to win 15 games'" he said.  "Whether we can or not, that's still our goal.  As good as we've been in the past, we still are striving to get better. "
