Protecting Your Pipes

Following a few simple tips could prevent some costly plumbing repairs when the temperature drops below freezing:

  • Be sure to drip your faucets. A slow, steady drip will keep the water moving, reducing the chance of pipes freezing.
  • Keep your cabinet doors open under the kitchen and bathroom sinks to let the warm air from your home heat them up.
  • Keep your thermostat above 65 degrees when leaving your home or business for several hours.
  • If your pipes do freeze, thaw them out as soon as possible, but slowly. Use a blow dryer, not a blow torch.
  • If you aren't sure what to do, call a plumber.
