The trip to the Middle East for troops from the Third Infantry Division continues. All weekend long, planeloads of soldiers from Hunter Army Airfield and Fort Stewart were leaving for their destinations in Kuwait. Several planes took off from Hunter yesterday, and many local representatives and senators have been at the airfield to see the troops off.
Senator Saxby Chambliss was at Fort Stewart over the weekend. He told the soldiers, he admires their commitment.
"They'd rather be here spending time with their families, but they understand they've got a job to do and they're prepared to do that job," he said.
The entire Third Infantry Division from Hunter and Fort Stewart is expected to be in the Middle East by the end of the month. It's the largest deployment since the Gulf War. In addition, 20 servicemen and women left from the Naval Hospital in Beaufort early today for the Persian Gulf.
