RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) - The American Red Cross sponsored a blood drive at the Richmond Hill United Methodist Church Friday. The drive was held as a memorial to Marine Captain Matthew Freeman who died in combat almost two months ago.
Dozens of people turned out to donate as a way to pay their respects to captain freeman and his family.
"I made the decision that I needed to come out and be part of things because that's what Matt would be doing," said Capt. Freeman's mother, Lisa Freeman. "Because Matthew was always right out in front of everyone. In keeping the school going or whatever he was involved in. And I also wanted to thank the community for everything it's done. I'm overwhelmed by what the communities of Savannah and Richmond Hill have done for our family."
Blood donations are always needed. For more information on how you can give the gift of life, contact your local Red Cross.
