SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The family and friends of a fallen Richmond Hill soldier are making sure his name lives on by donating school supplies to needy Afghani children.
Captain Matt Freeman's mother, with the help of Chief Warrant Officer Martin Calkins and his wife Beth and Boy Scout Troop 400, they collected supplies from area teachers and boy scouts.
On Monday, they loaded all the supplies in an Army container to be shipped to Afghanistan's children. Freeman's mother says it's what her son would have wanted.
"Matthew was always involved in making sure people had what they needed, and making people happy, and doing what the schools needed and everything; so, this buoys my spirit, it buoys my whole family, knowing that things are being done in his name," said Lisa Freeman.
The entire container was filled with supplies and it will be shipped in the next couple of days. Mrs. Freeman hopes to send another shipment in the next coming months.
