One man is dead and a woman stabbed after an argument at a hotel this morning in Room 227 of the Econo Lodge on Highway 204 by Interstate 95. Both the victim and the suspect in this incident were young males in their early 20s. Hotel guests say they never heard a peep.

"We slept through the whole thing, had no idea what happened," said visitor Paul Girsdansky.

Police say early this morning, a man was stabbed multiple times in his hotel room. The suspect left, leaving a bloody path, then headed to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he stabbed a female. He was arrested shortly after.

"He made an unsolicited statement to one of the deputies on scene that there was a body out here we'd probably want to come pick up," Chatham County police Capt. Bob Merriman told us.

Now police are left picking up the pieces, trying to determine how it all happened. We have learned from detectives the suspect had several warrants out for his arrest and that he had been stalking the woman for quite some time.

Police tell us the suspect came to the hospital, where the female stabbing victim works, with a plan, walking in very calmly and looking for her. He found her and stabbed her several times, and witnesses came running.

"I heard all the noise and commotion, the lady hollering for help," Pastor Vincent Drummer, who was on the scene, told us. "It didn't sound like an ordinary cry for help, it sounded like a panic."

The security response came in seconds. Other witnesses called 911 from their cell phones.

"One of the young ladies was really courageous, she went in there to help before the deputies got there," Drummer went on. "She put her life on the line to help her friend."

Bob Staples of hospital security told us, "The sheriff's department deputy responded quickly, along with our staff, and we were able to subdue the individual."

Neither the suspect's nor the two victims' names have been released, but we're told the female victim is doing okay. The suspect was treated at the scene and did admit to both crimes.
