SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The news of the shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas is sending shockwaves throughout the nation, but especially in the military community.
Savannah armed forces veteran Bryan Roussell says, "It's just astounding to realize that something could happen, just a horrific situation on an American base where people feel safe."
"We expect to be able to trust our brothers in arms it can shake that for a little while until you realize that this is just a blip on the radar screen, there is treachery everywhere, and we have to worry about those within and those without," said 2009 Veteran of the Year, Doug Andrews.
We caught up with Andrews and other veterans as they watched all the news coverage about the massacre. They never thought anything like this would happen on an American base.
Andrews said, "Tragedy and the unmitigated gaul of someone in service to our nation to do this and become an instant trader. I don't know the details, or how long the plan has been in place, but I do think there is a special place in hell for anyone who would do this."
