HINESVILLE, GA -- Rion Brown and Jordan McRae have led the Liberty County Panthers for the last 3 seasons. Thursday... they took advantage of the early signing period to sign basketball scholarships for next season.
Brown... the son of former Savannah Spirits star... Tico Brown... will be going to the University of Miami. He averaged more than 15 points a game last season as the Panthers compiled a 20-6 record. He tells us why he chose to play for the Hurricanes. "Coach Hayes, the University of Miami basketball coach, the program, the last 3 shooting guards all went to the NBA, so he can help me get to the next level, expand my game a little bit more. Starting a whole new life it's new beginnings, good enough for me."
McRae put his signature on the dotted line... and will play for Coach Bruce Pearl at Tennessee. He's excited about the opportunity and tells us what intrigued him enough to move to Knoxville. "Well, my whole years in high school, I've been playing the same fast break game and in AAU I've been playing the same fast break game, so I figure, why would I change the way I play now that I'm going to college. I want to keep playing the same fast break up tempo game. I'm real happy it's over with, I'm signed and I know where I'm going. It's one of the best days of my life."
