Hundreds of men and women in uniform got special recognition this morning. Fort Stewart's 549th Military Police Company has earned the Jeremiah Holland award. It honors the top MP company in all the Army. Today they accepted it and the preliminary award from Forces Command. The group recently returned from a six-month deployment to Bosnia and could soon leave for Kuwait. Commanders say MPs do more than traffic duty.
"A huge part of our job is supporting combat missions out on the battlefield, and that's what we're training for now and could deploy for in the future," said company commander Capt. William Poole.
The Army-wide award was founded by retired MP Brigadier General Jeremiah Holland in 1969 to recognize the service's best.
