Sonny Dixon here to tell you what's coming up today on THE News Now:

Looks like severe weather is headed our way - sliding across south Georgia right now. Folks here in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry are bracing for the storm that could hit hard this afternoon and evening. We'll have your latest weather forecast with meteorologist Pat Prokop coming up at 4:00.

Many schools in our area are also preparing for the bad weather. Brooke Kelley has been following this story and she'll have all the details.

Last night, President Barack Obama announced plans to send an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. We posted his speech on our WTOC Facebook page and got a lot of feedback! We'll check out what you had to say around the WTOC water cooler.
