A Low Country girl has a second chance at life thanks to a Marine. Ten-year-old Shawna Crawford needed a new kidney due to a life-threatening condition. Lt. Col. Michael Viers of Parris Island donated one of his kidneys to the youngster. The operation yesterday lasted more than five hours, and it was succesful.
The next few weeks will be the most critical period for Shawna's recovery. She's facing medical expenses of about $22,000 a year from now. If you would like to help Shawna, you can go by any South Carolina Bank and Trust and make a donation in her name.
